Membership Moment
Today's Membership Moment was provided by Gwenn Carr. She highlighted the numbers of members there are in our district: 1600 Rotarians! There are also 1300 Interact members. Our Interactors will be celebrated at our next meeting, which will be held at Northwestern Lehigh Middle School on October 25.

Today's guests were Dr. Lisa Greenawalt, executive director of LCTI, and prospective AWRC member, and Nick Millward, who joined us on Zoom.
Reminder:
Gary Englehardt asked that we remember, when we take photos for the club, to please be sure to get signed photo releases from people who are identifiable in the photos. Rotary International's biggest legal issues are the result of photos that are used without permission. The photo releases will soon be available on our website, or email Gwenn or Gary to have one emailed to you.
Gary and Gwenn attended the dedication of the 136th home built by Habitat for Humanity Lehigh Valley. They presented the Alevelo-Nunez family with a gift certificate to Giant supermarkets.
October Social Outing
On October 20 at 6:00 p.m., club members will attend the Kutztown Ghost Tour. Let Gwenn know if you need tickets. (Boo!)

1. Michelle is scheduling a tour of the Sanctuary at Haafsville (a safe haven for homeless cats and dogs)
2. Several people indicated that they would purchase Krispy Kreme donuts from our Northwestern Lehigh Interact students. One dozen glazed donuts is $12. There will be more information about this.
3. There was one comment regarding meetings. “Please keep having speakers with relevant topics.”
4. Thanks to those who provided interesting facts about themselves. We will be using them in the weeks to come.

Sue Weber is happy to be here.
Herb Klotz celebrated a great Zone event in Toronto, and thanked donors who sponsored him for the Community Bike Works event (which he thoroughly enjoyed, and thanked Diana for getting him involved in it), and finally, he wanted members to know that if anyone is interested in working with him on a leadership team, to please reach out to him.
Laurie Grube was happy because Lisa Greenawalt was in attendance, and because she is going on vacation to New Hampshire.
Bill Weber is happy that Sue Weber does not ride her scooter on the highway! (Ahem, Sue...we all are!)
We are all happy that Earnie Bliss is back among us after his shoulder surgery, and he is happy that he recently became a grandfather.
Jean Masiko is happy to report that, although he had a burst appendix, she can report that Rick Bloom is okay!
Diana Dunn is happy that over $3500 was raised for Community Bike Works.
Geoff Legg is happy too, but your reporter was not able to hear why, so you'll just have to take her word for it.
INTERACT BREAKFAST
A sign-up sheet for the Northwestern Lehigh Interact Club breakfast was circulated. The event is on October 25 at the Middle School and begins at 8:30 A.M. We will meet at the Northwestern Lehigh Middle School to have breakfast with our Interactors. Two special students will be honored at that meeting. Please join us at 6636 Northwest Road, New Tripoli. The breakfast will be served at 8:30 A.M.
SAVE THE DATE:
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, will be a special meeting. DG Diane will be attending, and we will have special recognition of our members who work on food insecurity projects. It's the day before Thanksgiving, so please plan to spend your morning with us before you travel or begin your Thanksgiving preparations. This is our day to give thanks for our District Governor and for all of you who are serving the hungry in the Lehigh Valley.

The NWL Snack Packing will take place Wednesday, October 18, starting at 2:00. Each month will be the 3rd Wednesday from 2-2:35.

KINGDOM LIFE FOOD DISTRIBUTION:
Much help is still needed. There are many more people looking for food than before the pandemic, and the setup work takes many hands. Please come out if you can help.

PARKLAND C.A.R.E.S. PRODUCE DELIVERY:
The Pantry holds its food distributions on the first Saturday of each month for all of 2023. Three volunteers are needed each time. Food collections for Parkland C.A.R.E.S. are held the third Wednesday of each month at the Pantry on Kernsville Road.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
Meal delivery by AW Rotarians takes place twice each week. Helen Papathanasiou always needs substitute volunteers.
PROGRAM:
Club Assembly
Herb discussed the membership committee, current status with new members (one, with one almost there and one more in the works. The team of eight meets monthly.
Bill Keba went over our service projects, which was quite a lengthy list and highlighted how active our club is in the community.
Marlene Heller talked about the Public Image team and pointed out what they have accomplished, including overhauling the club's website, getting stories into local newspapers, and creating the photo archive.
Marlene also spent a few minutes talking about how to take better photos that can be useful to the Public Image team for use in marketing materials and publicity. She said to remember that "Rotarians work shoulder to shoulder, but we are People of Action." She stressed that we should not take photos of people standing shoulder to shoulder, but have them doing some kind of action. Also, no selfies! Table photos and large rooms at events are not as valuable as closeups of people working together.
PEOPLE OF ACTION PHOTO CONTEST
The Rules:
- Use any camera or cell phone to take photos.
- NO SELFIES ALLOWED
- Photos must show members of AWRC in action, doing service, or carrying out the business of the club.
- If there are people other than members in the photo, you must have a signed release saying we have permission to use their likeness in marketing, etc.
- Send your photos, and any signed photo releases, to: Marlene Heller at [email protected] and Peter Wohlsen at [email protected] by Dec. 31, 2023.
- Prizes will be announced at a later date.
NEXT MORNING MEETING IN-PERSON:
The next in-person meeting is October 25, at Northwestern Lehigh Middle School. See above for details. We will be honoring our Students of the Month at this meeting. Please remember to park in the back lot at the middle school, and bring an ID to be able to enter the school.
