This was our first In-Person meeting of 2023, AND the first meeting at Cedar Crest College. There were 21 of us in the room, plus 5 more on-line.

OPENING:
President Gail Micca opened the meeting at 7:30 A.M.
Marlene Heller gave a very nice invocation.
Ron Coleman led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S.
Marlene Heller led us reciting the Rotary Four Way Test, adding “Is it fun?” as a fifth.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
INDUCTION OF A NEW MEMBER:
Membership Chair, Tori Morgan, introduced Bill Keba, and gave some of his bio. Bill has just completed a Master’s Degree in Philosophy. Bill is a member of Toastmasters, and will now chair our Four Way Test Speech Contest.
Gwenn Carr and Gary Englehardt are Bill’s sponsors, and they came forward.
Tori then conducted the formal ceremony and Gary added a lapel pin onto Bill. Congratulations, Bill. Welcome to AWRC.
VOTE STATUS:
The results of the annual voting for our B.O.D. members for Rotary Year 2023-24 were held up due to a candidate change. The new ballot is on the tables this morning for a new vote. Herb collected them.
Also, Gary Englehardt has boars approval to be out Treasurer as of Jan. 1, 2023.

STEM YEA FUNDRAISER:
The 2nd Annual Big Ticket Reverse Raffle (BTRR) will be held on April 15, 2023 at Brookside Country Club, in Pottstown from 5:30-10:00 p.m.
DINING OUT JANUARY:
Pres. Gail reports “A great time was had by all. Several of our newest members joined us at Thai Origin and the food was excellent. We were happy to have our past exchange student, Andrea, and current exchange student, Samuel attend. Ralph managed to make the trip and we viewed some pictures of his new grandson! Dining outs are a great way to spend quality time together. Join us for our next one on February 2nd!”
DINING OUT FEBRUARY:
Marlene Heller has announced Dining Out for February will take place on Thursday, Feb. 2, at Capo & Co. on Chestnut St. in Emmaus. RSVP to Marlene Heller ([email protected]). The restaurant opened this past summer with a 1920’s vibe, and has an eclectic menu, which will be available for perusal at next week’s meeting. More information will be forthcoming.

PROJECTS FOR GRANTS FOR 2022-23:
Please tell Pres. Gail your recommendations for special projects for which we can make Grant applications. Herb said we will have one for Sierra Leone too.
PARKLAND C.A.R.E.S. PRODUCE DELIVERY:
Parkland CARES distributed food on Saturday, January 7th. Karen Rodgers said they served 170 families.
The Pantry will hold its food distributions on the first Saturday of each month for the entirety of 2023.
Food collections for Parkland CARES will be held the third Wednesday of each month at the Pantry on Kernsville Road.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TOUR:
Pres. Gail again said the tour was great. Amir Famili said that AWRC members are great spokespeople for this cause.
FUTURE TOURS, ETC.:
All members are asked to make suggestions to Gail Micca about other tours, Dining Out events, etc. for future meetings.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
The schedule for the next 3 months is set. Helen always needs substitutes.
LEHIGH VALLEY CORNHOLE TYPE EVENT:
On January 26 at Brü Daddy's Brewing Company at 732 Hamilton St, Allentown, PA 18101. Meet our District Governor; bring your family; bring member candidates for sure.
PAUL HARRIS AWARDS:
PDG Herb Klotz awarded Pres. Gail Micca her PHF+5, and to Mustafa Jaffer a PHF+3.
PRIZES:
Sgt-at-Arms Mitch Huston had tickets drawn.
The door prize of a box of chocolates donated by Amir Famili was won by Gwenn Carr.
The $10 of the 50:50 was won by Herb Klotz.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Bill Palmer is happy that we are meeting here at Cedar Crest College.
Gwenn Carr is happy that we are here at the College. She noted that we need at least 20 attending each time to cover the minimum bill. At our next In-Person meeting we will decide whether or not we continue to meet here.
Herb Klotz is happy to be going on a trip to the Dominican Republic with Engineers Without Borders. It has been 5 years since his last trip with them.
Sharon Goldner is happy that their son had his surgery and is doing well. She also is happy that Bill Keba now is a member.
Ralph Witcher offers our thanks to Gwenn and Gary for their program today. And he welcomes Bill Keba.
MEETING SCHEDULE:

January 18: Zoom only starting at 7:30 A.M. We will honor the Student of the Month. The program will be Bill Keba giving his Classification talk.

PROGRAM:
Pres. Gail asked Gwenn Carr, Gary Englehardt and Herb Klotz to do the program.
We plan to strengthen the structure of our Rotary Club. For Rotary Year 2023-2024 there will be two teams that will lead the club as well as engaging our newer Rotarians for leadership roles.
Herb Klotz described Team 1.
Team 1 is Gwenn Carr’s President Committee that will run the business side of the club. Gary Englehardt and Herb Klotz are on this committee. The team members are Gwenn This was formerly the President position. This team has a unique combination of complementary skills.
Gary Englehardt described Team2.
Team 2 is the Advisory Group. Members are Gail, Micca Herb Klotz, Gary Englehardt, Gwenn Carr, Amir Famili, and we plan to add two newer Rotarians. This team needs members to help develop the AWRC Succession Plan. Learn how you can be a part of this team.
During 2023-2024 we will focus on the Rotary Avenues of Service. This is a topic for the January 25th meeting.
Gwenn Carr discussed and distributed a list of the goals going forward.

We also need to identify Committee Chairs starting July 1, 2023 or sooner. The Committees include: Fundraising, Service Projects, Membership, Public Image, Youth Services, AWRC Foundation, RI Foundation, Fellowship, Program and Club meeting support.
Gail Micca asked that any member that currently is leading a project to please write up the specifics of what you do and why. We will build a file of these roles.
Tori Morgan said that we need to understand the preferences of every member. What involvement in our RC do you really enjoy? What other aspects also interest you?
We also discussed our updated website. Many thanks go to Peter Wohlsen and Marlene Heller. The website now looks at today and the future.
