Today was an In-Person meeting at Parkland High School starting at 7:30 A.M. There were 21 of us plus 11 Interact students present, as well as 4 Parkland school administrators.’
Our Greeter was Nicole McGalla. Mitch Huston handled registration, prizes and Happy Dollars.

OPENING:
Pres. Gail Micca opened the meeting at 7:30 A.M.
Katrina Sundstrom gave a nice invocation.
Ron Coleman led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag.
Pres. Gail led us in reciting the Four Way Test, and added “Is it Fun?”

NEW AWRC DISTRICT GRANT APPROVED:
Our thanks go to John Scott, the author and shepherd of this District Grant which has been approved for our club!
This Grant will provide Installation of information display boards and newsletter kiosks in local parks to promote community and economic development in Western Lehigh County, specifically in Upper Macungie Parks. Parks have an intrinsic benefit to visitors and residents of an economic area. They promote well-being and are accessible to all ages. From youth to retirees, everyone has a use of a park. By providing information, directions and health and safety access in the form of signage and access information the parks will increase in use.
Bonnie Eckenrode, the District 7430 Grants Chairperson reported ---
“We are pleased to inform you that your club District Grant application for 2023 -2024 AWRC Park Community Board and Distribution Grant in the amount of $4,000 dollars has been approved by the District 7430 Grants committee and District Executive committee for submission for our District 2023-2024 Spending Plan.”
When we receive notice of approval from RI , we will inform you of when the project may begin. No projects may begin with any spending until we receive RI approval.
Congratulations, you have a great project and thank you for your support of the Rotary Foundation. Without your club’s support we could not implement all the wonderful projects our district does.
NEW AWRC GLOBAL GRANT APPROVED:
The Global Grant Application for a project in Sierra Leone, Africa has been approved by the Grants Committee and the District Executive Team from District 7430 for $22,223 DDF to be applied effective July 1, 2023.
Thanks go to Diana Dunn for proposing this grant. SLOIC provides the most disadvantaged students with vocational training in a variety of fields.
The goal of this project is to provide SLOIC-Mattru with the facilities and capabilities to:
1-Teach basic computer literacy to the vo-tech students enrolled there and to interested community members.
2-Access online training material relevant to the trades taught.
The scope includes the purchase of laptops and a TV or projector, installation of a solar system to cost-effectively and sustainably power the equipment, internet access, and funds for SL instructors and U.S. content producers.

Pres. Gail asks that members step up and plan a Dining Out for July and August.
AWRC GREEN THUMB GARDEN:
Pres. Gail reports -- Life is busy at the gardens. And they need watering regularly.
MONGOLIAN 21 / 21 NIGHT-- JUNE 10:
Please join us for Mongolia 21|21 Night at Gary and Gwenn’s home in Kutztown. The event begins at 5:30. This is an evening of fellowship, fun, and opportunity. You will learn more about the Mongolia 21|21 Project (www.mongolia 2121.org) as well as enjoy the fellowship of Rotarians and other folks who want to do good in the world.

NEWS: Gwenn Carr reports “We have lots of great news regarding the Project. A club in California has signed on as a Sponsor. We have a presentation for an RC in Massachusetts on May 30th. Other service organizations have indicated interest as well. The news is spreading and our partnership with FOM is on Facebook as well.”
SNACK PACKING:
The next Snack Packing event at Parkland is in September.
The NWL Snack Packing date is in September.
KINGDOM LIFE FOOD DISTRIBUTION:

The upcoming dates for Kingdom Life Food Pantry Giveaway are:
June 10 July 8 August 12
Each time we start at 7:30 A.M. and usually are finished by 9:30 A.M. Volunteers are needed.
PARKLAND C.A.R.E.S. PRODUCE DELIVERY:
The Pantry will hold its food distributions on the first Saturday of each month for all of 2023.
Three volunteers are needed each time.
Food collections for Parkland C.A.R.E.S. will be held the third Wednesday of each month at the Pantry on Kernsville Road.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
Meal delivery by AW Rotarians takes place twice each week. Helen Papathanasiou always needs substitute volunteers.
CAMP NEIDIG (RYLA):

AWRC will be sending three area High School students to Camp Neidig this Spring. They are Lucas Dee and Elene Tzidelade from Parkland High School, and Jordan Allen from NW Lehigh High School.
MEETING SCHEDULE:
The second and fourth Wednesday of each month are In-Person meetings at Cedar Crest College.
The first Wednesday of each month will be a Dining Out meeting, or equal. It might not be on a Wednesday.
The third Wednesday of each month will be a ZOOM ONLY meeting with a program, unless we have a better idea
FUTURE TOURS, ETC.:
All members are asked to make suggestions to Gail Micca about other tours, Dining Out events, etc. for future meetings.
NEXT MORNING MEETING IN-PERSON:
Wednesday, June 14th at Cedar Crest College starting at 7:30 A.M.
The program will be new member, Bianca Rivera, giving her Classification Talk.
PROGRAM:
Pres. Gail said that over breakfast as we sat with the Intertact students, we had ample time to visit with Interact members and learn about their reasons for joining the club and what they enjoy about Interact and service to their community.
Keira Leiby, Interact president (2 years), presented a PowerPoint highlighting the various projects they have been leading and helping with including the Homecoming Parade where they “stuff the bus” with food for the high school pantry, Miracle League Trick or Treat event, Snackpacking monthly, Holiday gift collection for NCCYF and a Roadside Cleanup project (June).
The officers for this past year each received a Four Way Test coin and the new officers for next year were announced. All Interact members received an “Imagine Rotary” 2022-23 themed pin and a tomato plant.
Lori Peters, the Parkland Interact Advisor, was thanked for her commitment to Parkland Interact and she was given a Rotary “BELIEVE THERE IS GOOD IN THE WORLD” (BE THE GOOD) World Changer pin for her contribution.
HAPPY DO;LARS:
Some members had happy dollars before we closed.
CLOSING:
Pres. Gail led us in reciting our motto “One profits most who serves best,” and adjourned the meeting.
