Club Member Survey Results
In late March we surveyed our club members to learn more about their interests and priorities. We received responses from 28 members. Here is a summary of what we learned.
- The top reasons of what members want from their Rotary experience are Service activities and friendship & fun.
- With respect to friendship & fun, members would like more dining out, followed by cultural events and sporting events. We are working to increase fellowship events.
- The priorities on service activities are hunger initiatives, youth programs and programs for the homeless and disadvantaged.
- Members were satisfied with the current meeting experience, although a few said that some improvement could help. We will be following up with several suggestions. Most people were happy with biweekly meeting frequency.
- With respect to dues, most people felt that the club dues are about right.
- There were also several members who expressed interest in specific areas and we have followed up with those members.
Thank you for your feedback!
We note with sorrow the death of our Honorary Member, Bob Nagle.
Services will take place at Ebenezer Church in New Tripoli on Tuesday, May 28. Times: 2:30-4:00 for viewing; 4 pm for service.
PROGRAM
Today's meeting took place via Zoom, due to Cedar Crest College being closed as the grounds are being prepared for Mayfair, which takes place this weekend.
Nick Millward introduced our 21|21 student Oyuntugs Narmandakh, who told us what life was like for her at her University. Her English was very good, and she answered our questions, including what her top successes and struggles were. Baigalmaa Gh translated for Oyuntugs when necessary, and helped to round out her answers.
There were about 25 members online, and we enjoyed learning how our student adjusted to college, learning how to grow as a person and adjust to living without her family, who she said she missed very much. Living with a roommate, who had been a stranger to her, was a new experience. Together, they made their dorm room a home, learned to furnish it and cook for each other, and became friends. It sounded like the school experience, where she is studying finance, is also giving Oyuntugs life experience, and she is benefiting from it in many ways.
Oyuntugs also told us that, by studying finance, she is going to be in the same profession as her parents, who are civil service workers. But Nick made clear that her parents, as civil service employees, make low salaries, and most people in their position are also cab drivers to make ends meet. However, with the university education that we are helping our student to get, she will be eligible for a much better position and salary, and will do well in her future professional choices.
